Karrikins
An ongoing series documenting the aftermath of the recent 2019-20 Australian bushfires using the discontinued and extremely rare Kodak Aerochrome false-colour infrared film. Karrikins exhibited at Barometer Gallery (13 Gurner St, Paddington, NSW) from 24th to 28th November 2021.
The name Karrikins refers to a set of chemicals that are produced as a result of wildfires and can stimulate the regrowth of certain plants. Kodak Aerochrome captures the infrared light reflecting off the regrowth in lurid shades of pink and red, which contrasts against the burnt and blackened trees, evoking images of the flickering flames that crept up these trees only months earlier.
Limited Edition (hand signed and numbered) photographic prints are available as framed or unframed; framed limited edition prints come with conservation grade UV-resistant non-reflective glass. Different framing colours and options also available on request.
